Dr. Louie D. Newton was president of the Southern Baptist Convention from 1947-1948, vice president of the Baptist World Alliance, he was also president of the Georgia Baptist Convention in 1950 and 1951. He served as pastor of the Druid Hills Baptist Church in Atlanta from 1929-1969. He founded the Americans United for Separation of Church and State in 1934, and the Georgia Council on Moral and Civic Concerns in 1943.
