Notes
Girls’ High School was originally founded in 1872 when the Atlanta public school system was established. The following year, the school occupied the John Neal home at the corner of Mitchell and Washington Streets in downtown Atlanta, Georgia. In 1888, a new, three-story red brick building was added to the site to accommodate the growing student body. In the mid-1920s, Girls’ High moved to a new facility in the Grant Park neighborhood and the buildings at the corner of Mitchell and Washington Streets were demolished to make room for Atlanta City Hall.
