The Battle of Kennesaw Mountain was fought June 27, 1864 near Marietta, Georgia, during the American Civil War. As part of the Atlanta Campaign, it was the most significant frontal assault launched by General William T. Sherman against the Confederate Army of Tennessee under General Joseph E. Johnston. It was a tactical defeat for the Union.
