Where did you get these images?

The Kenan Research Center frequently receives donations of visual material from individuals, families, photojournalists, businesses, and civic and community organizations which document Atlanta or Georgia history.

If you would like to donate items to the Kenan Research Center, please call us at 404.814.4040.

How do I place an order?

When you find an image you would like to purchase, click the “Get Pricing” link which will take you to checkout. You will then be asked to tell us how you will use the image which will determine the price. When you purchase the image you will receive a receipt email that will include directions on downloading any digital images you ordered. Photographic prints will be delivered via mail.

I’m having trouble finding an image. What am I doing wrong?

There are several reasons why you may not be able to find a photograph on Album. Images are indexed by specific search terms which may not reflect the terms you used to locate them. If your search results in zero hits, try modifying your search using similar terms (i.e. instead of NASCAR use auto racing). If you are searching for an individual who had a nickname, search both. Always be certain your spelling is correct. Please feel free to contact the Kenan Research Center at 404.814.4040 for assistance.

What are the specifications of the digital files of photographs I can download?

The majority of the photographs on Album were digitized at 400dpi, sized at 8x10 inches. The resulting image size is 4000 pixels on the long edge. Black and white images range from 12 to 15 MB; color images from 30 to 45 MB. Several thousand images in several collections were scanned at 300dpi, sized at 8x10 inches, with the resulting image size at 3000 pixels on the long edge. If you require a larger file size, the Kenan Research Center Reprographics Department will be happy to create scans on demand for you. Contact Betsy Rix at 404.814.4067 for more information.

How do I report an error?

Your comments will go straight to the person who deals with such reports. Please feel free to use this application if you find a photograph that interests you and would like to make a general comment.

I want to upload and share some of my photographs of Atlanta to Album, but I don’t want the Atlanta History Center to make money by selling them. How do I know you’re not selling my photographs?

Good question! The digital photographs that our viewers generously submit to Album are stored in a separate database that does not connect to our ecommerce system, so customers cannot order these images online. Furthermore, the images submitted to our site from the community are protected by copyright and by law (Title 17, U. S. Code) the Atlanta History Center cannot reproduce them for use by a third party.

How can I purchase printed images that are larger than 11 x 14 inches?

Do you make any cosmetic changes to the scans before you make prints?

All photos in Album are scans of original negatives and photographic prints. There may be scratches or cracks on some of the images. [Betsy]As we print each order, we conduct touch-ups to any major damage on the scan of the negative, but do not conduct a complete restoration of the image. You will receive a print of the image as it currently exists in the archives.
