The film Gone With the Wind, based on the novel by Margaret Mitchell (Marsh), premiered in Atlanta, Georgia, on December 15, 1939. Biographical information regarding William J. Folsom has not been determined.
The beginning of the footage captures the Atlanta Junior League Ball at the Atlanta Municipal Auditorium and was shot in black and white and color. Folsom shot the black and white portion from an elevated position panning the auditorium grandstands and floor area. The color section is floor level and captures guests in costumes entering the auditorium and dancing. The remaining portion of the film was taken the day of the premiere at Loew's Grand Theatre and is shot in color. Folsom captured spectators waiting for the arrival of the principal actors and dignitaries including some arriving by horse drawn carriage decorated with Confederate memorabilia.
