Notes
|
In 1962, Herman J. Russell (1930 - ) founded H. J. Russell Construction Company, which focused on the development of commercial properties and large multi-family housing units. The company later became the largest minority-owned construction and real estate development firm in the country. In 1963, Russell became the first black member of the Atlanta Chamber of Commerce and in 1980 he became only the second black president of that organization. Russell has also served as chairman of the board of Citizen's Trust Bank, one of the largest African American financial institutions in the nation.
