Notes
|
Muhammad Ali was a professional boxer who was crowned World Heavyweight Champion three times. He was originally born Cassius Clay, but changed his name to Muhammad Ali after he revealed his membership in the Nation of Islam. Ali was a conscientious objector during the Vietnam War and refused induction into the United States Army. He was subsequently stripped of his boxing license and was on a three year boxing hiatus between 1967 and 1970. His return match took place in Atlanta, Georgia in 1970. Ali retired from boxing in 1981.
